Ald.Ranger re population census review September 13th, 1976 Alderman Ranger, in speaking to his motion, stated his view that an example should be set by the senior government through purchase of a chipper to use for clearing and making mulch. Alderman Thompson pointed out that burning is taking place along the B.C. Hydro right-of-way on Burke Mountain, and stated he thought the Department of Highways should be allowed to burn as requested since the highway will benefit the City somewhat. Alderman Mabbett pointed out that the application was not from the Department of Highways, but from Standard General Construction Ltd., the general contractors on the project, and stated he felt that that firm should haul the debris away. The City Clerk then drew to Council's attention the fact that the owner's consent, required under Item 2(b) on the application form, - which in this case is the Province - has not been obtained, and the Fire Chief suggested that perhaps this was due to the shortness of time in having to submit the application on Friday for consideration by Council on Monday. Alderman Ranger referred to the census figures recently received from Statistics Canada and noted that the population figures of most municipalities have apparently been over-estimated compared to those of the census. A brief discussion ensued, and the following metion was proposed: Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That Mr. R.A. Wallace of Statistics Canada be asked to review the total figure calculated for Port Coquitlam following the recently completed population census. Carried.
