Hockey changes Proposed changes in Quebec’s minor hockey systemare design- ed to put fun back into the game, and deflate minds of “win-only”’ coaches. A Quebec government task force is recommending changes for the entire minor hockey system of that province, The task force says it discovered minor hockey has become too elitist and that coaches are more concerned with winning than with player development. It suggests that below the age of 12, hockey should be less competitive and more recrea- tional. They want it concen- trated in schools. with a goal of having fun.and making. friends. The task force also: calls. for the elimination of regional tour- naments. It proposes; two hockey seasons — “from September to December, and from January to April. © «' It also asks for only one game per weekend per team. © The task force conducted more than 3,000 interviews over a province-wide tour that started last March, More hearings are planned for the major cities of Montreal and Quebec City next month. Among the task. force members are Bob Gainey of the Canadiens and Michel Goulet of the Nordiques. No doubt B.C. Minor Hockey will view the Quebec situation » closely, although some of the fo. items are more or less. im- a Cae plemented here. 7 | The Soares BFE TERRACE MEN'S BASKETBALL LEAGUE | ~ Team.
