Zoning bylaw No. 229 - 1961 and all additions and amendments thereto are hereby repealed, PURPOSE ; The principal purpase of this bylaw is ta guide th natural growth of the District in a systematic and orderly way for the ultimate benefit of the com- munity as a whole by ensuring that the yarlous uses made of land and structures in the District develop in proper relationship ta ore another: and every section of the bylaw shall be so interpreted. DEFINITIONS Whenever in this bylaw the following words or terms are used they shall, unless the context other- be held to have the following meaning: Accessory use — shall mean a use customarily inel- dental and subordinate to the principal use o¢ building and located on the same site with such ’ principal use or building. Alferation or altered — shall mean a building or structure to which an addition ig made or in which any structural change is made. Apartment House -- shal] mean a type of multiple dwelling for the purpose of providing 3 or more separate dwelling units with shared en- frances and other essential facilities and serv- ces, ; Auto Court — shall mean 4 series of units, intended for the use of automobile transients, and con- taining at least a bedroom, bathroom, and hav- ing convenient access to a Parking space for - the use of the occupants. . Building — shall mean a structure used for the shelter or accommodation of persons, animals, goods or chattels. Building, accessory — shall mean a subordinate de- tached building appurtenant to a main building or main use and located on the same site, the purpose of which is to provide better and more convenient enjoyment of the main building or main use. . ; . Building line, established (in a block) — shall mean the average distance from the street line to the main wall of existing buildings in any block Where more. than half of the frontage has been built wpon, Council — shall mean the Councll of the District of Terrace. . District — shall mean the District of Terrace. Dwelling Unit — ‘shall mean two or more rooms used or intended for the domestic use of one or more individuals living as a single house- . keeping unit, with cooking, living, sleeping and sanitary facilities, ‘ ; 7 Dwelling, otte-family or single family. — shall mean a detached building consisting of one dwelling - unit as herein defined, and occupied or. intend: in the Province | ag an accommodation for clients and customers. Garage, private ~ shall mean a building or part of ’ a building used or intended to be used for the storage of private. passenger motor vehicles and having a capacity of not-more than two vehicle spaces for each dwelling unit. Gerage, public — shall mean a building or part of a building other.than a private garage used for the storage, care, repair, servicing or equipping of motor vehicles or where such vehicles are kept for remuneration, hire, sale or display, Home Occupation — shall mean any trade, busl- ‘ ness, profession, or other accupation carried on for remuneration or gain in a dwelling unit which use ig secondary to the primary use of the dwelling as a residence. . Hotel — shall mean a bullding or part thereof wherein accommodation is provided for transi- ent lodgers, and having a public dining room: or cafe, Lane — shall mean a secondary public thoroughfare intended primarily te give access to the rear or side of abutting property. mc edging House — shall mean any building or part thereof other than a hotel or motel wherein lodging without cooking facilities is provided for compensation pursuant to previous arrange- . ment and not necessarily to anyone who may i but shall not include a single dwelling ap unit within which not more than two sleeping rooms are provided for com: tion. Site line, side — shall mean a site boundary other - .than a dront or rear site line. Street — shall mean a public thoroughfare which afford the principal means of. access to abut- ting property. a og Streat line — shall mean the boundary line between a site and a street. - . - Structure — shall mean anything that is built, con- structed or erected, the use of which requires location on the ground, or attachment to some- thing having a location on the ground, - . Terrace hovse or row house — shail mean a uild- ing divided into three or more dwelling units located side by aide under one roof with pri- vate exits or entrances and not. more than two stories high, and sharing common walls.
