THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM REPORT TO COUNCIL TO: BR. Kirk DATE: July 8, 1993 City Administrator FROM: LR. Zahynacz, P. Eng., FILE: PWC City Engineer SUBJECT: TEMPORARY ACCESS ROAD - DEVELOPMENT ON COQUITLAM INDIAN RESERVE #2 The purpose of this report is to expand on the pro’s and con’s of Access Route No. 3 as described in the report from the undersigned to the City Administrator dated June 24, 1993 on the temporary access to the Coquitlam Indian Reserve #2. At a meeting held June 6, 1993 with Mayor Traboulay, Chris Fielding from Shaughnessy Woods and the undersigned, it was noted that residents in Shaughnessy Woods prefer Access Route #3 rather than Access Route #5 (Shaughnessy Street from Mary Hill Road). The following is a list of advantages and disadvantages for Access Route #3: Advantages 1) There are no residences located beside the temporary access road. 2) There is about 250 feet separation between the new access road and Shaughnessy Woods and the noise of the trucks would be greatly reduced. 3) Trucks would not have to cross Nacht Avenue. Disadvantages 1) The access route #3 would go across the existing City trail between Mary Hill Road and Shaughnessy, and there would be limited visibility at this crossing. 2) There would be three tall Cedar plus twelve smaller Maple and Cedar trees that would have to be removed. 3) There is both a horizontal curve and a vertical curve in Mary Hill Road approximately 50 metres north of the proposed intersection and some trees and brush would have to be removed along the west side along Mary Hill Road to improve the safe sight distance. Residents located on Mary Hill Road adjacent to this intersection would be negatively affected. ITEM | PAGE | 30 | 81 Cont'd .../2
