Fj FEB ~3 TO: Mayor and Council January 28, 1975 FROM: Alderman Ranger RE: Coguitiam and District Hospital On Tuesday, January 21, 1975 I attended a meeting of the Coquitlam and _ _ .Distriet Hospital Society and at that time a discussion took place on the ‘| revised population estimates for the Coquitlam area and the obvious need to make provision for this increased population in the current planning stage. ° I would like to propose the following resolution for endorsement by Council. If the resolution is endorsed I would suggest that copies of the resolution be sent to the Municipal Councils of the member municipalities in the G.V.R.H.D. | asking for their support and that the resolution be forwarded to the G.V.R.H.D. with a copy to the Honourable Dennis Cocke the Minister of Health. “Whereas the hospital now being planned to service the residents of District #43 is in the embryo stage ; - Whereas this will be the first new hospital to be built in British Columbia in twelve years and it may be advantageous for the Hospital Board to take an innovative approach to planning of the hospital as opposed to a tradi- tional approach in order to speed up the planning stage; Whereas a conservative estimate of the 1981 population of the area to be served by the hospital is in the order of 250,000 persons as opposed to earlier estimates of 140,000 persons; ; ; : Therefore be it resolved that G.V.R.H.D. and the Provincial Governmeut be urged to approve additional beds to Phase I in order to avoid the higher cost of adding additional beds t6 Phase II or Phase III." Respectfully submitted, Alderman Phil Ranger. - LDP:PFR:da .
