Born in 1916 to one of the first pioneer cou- ples to be married in Terrace, Otto was around before there was even a road leading out of town. “Tt’s very hard for people today to realize that the road that went out of Terrace only went -to Frank Street crossing,” he says. - He recalls a childhood of walking along the railway tracks to get in and out of town. -“The trains stopped and picked us up and - brought us back to Terrace for two bits,” he re- " members. His deep ties to Terrace’s heritage will be re- cognized at this year’s Riverboat Days when he and his wife Fran are celebrated as Captain and Queen. The couple has now been married for 53 years. “Well, it happens if you live long enough with the same person,” jokes Fran, “That’s the main thing,” Otto adds. “You've got to live long enough.” Although both are retirees, life is far from quiet. The two are seasoned travellers and have visiled exciting locations such as England, Au- stralia, and New Zealand. In recent years, the adventurous Fran has even been to Fran says. “We'll try to’ behave properly,” she jokes. ‘We helped wash the dishes. When in Terrace, she’s an avid bridge player and volunteers at the Happy Gang Centre, the hospital auxiliary and in her church group. Otto divides his time between trapping and taking care of his father Charles’ original land out at Remo.
