This one-day affair for IWA members and their families featured free pony rides for the children, as well as prizes for the winners of sporting events, plus free cof- fee, ice cream, pop and milk. Sporting activities included races which children and the wives and IWA members could participate in. Prizes were made available to all in spite of where they may have finished in the various events. This excellent day was made possible largely through the efforts of the many mem- bers who volunteered their services. Bursary awarded Local 1-85, IWA Port Al- berni reports that the success- ful contestant for the IWA Bursary in the amount of $500.00 was Miss Edna Shep- herd of Port Alberni, a stu- -dent at A.D.S.S. Since 1955, Local 1-85 has awarded a $500.00 Bursary annually. The Bursary is open to-all Grade 12 stu- dents in the Alberni Valley and to the sons and daughters of members of Local 1-85 wherever they may be attend- ing schools in B.C. providing they will continue their edu- ‘EDNA SHEPHERD Bursary Winner cation in a recognized Cana- dian College or University. Of the applicants for the Bursary, Edna Shepherd re- ceived the highest marks. Miss Shepherd has been very active in community and school projects throughout , her years spent at A.D.SS. | and plans to pursue a Bache- ‘lor of Arts degree at the Uni- versity of Victoria.
