sae a THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER MARCH, 1979 March 16-17, Vancouver LOCAL 1-217 | SHOP STEWARDS’ SEMINAR A highly successful two-day Shop Stewards Seminar was conducted by Local 1-217 IWA, Vancouver, March 16-17, in the auditorium of the B.C. Government Employees’ Union, Burnaby. Instructors included Denny Scott from the IWA’s International Research staff; Frank Wall, Regional Education Director; Gerry Stoney, President, Local 1-357; Clay Perry, Regional Legislative Director; Doug Evans, Local 1-217 Financial Secretary. Local President Syd Thompson made the opening address and welcomed the students to the course. Verna Ledger, Regional Safety Director, spoke on the IWA’s programme to improve safety conditions in the forest industry and the important role workers on the job could play. Erich Ewert, Local ist Vice-President, was the seminar’s co- ordinator. The Local paid the wages of the students for the Friday and SS : = provided free lunches and coffee for the two days.
