Algerians demand end to French colonialism The struggle in Algeria flared into the world’s head- lines this week with fighting in the main cities resulting in more than 100 dead and unknown numbers wounded. Touching off the street fight- ing was the visit of President de Gaulle which was aimed at rallying support for his policy for Algeria in next month’s referendum.
