Freeman City Clerk SUBJECT: Appointment of Bylaw Officers RECOMMENDATION: That Bylaw No. 2063 be read a first three times. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: The attached "Bylaw Enforcement Officer Bylaw, 1984, No. 2063" has been drafted fn cooperation with our sollcitor and wil! place our Bylaw Enforcement Officer appointments on a firmer legal footing. Following adoption of the bylaw by Counci! resolutions wil!l.be presented continuing the appointment of our present two Bylaw Enforcement Officers and any changes in the personnel of these positions wfi!l! be brought to Council's attention for confirmation. This procedure more closely follows the requirements of the Municipal Act and the Police. Act. in order to remove any doubts that may arise In connection with the legal authority of Bylaw Enforcement Otficers to serve court documents we will be taking the Ministry of Attorney-General up on Its offer to appoint our Bylaw Enforcement Officers as part-time Sheriffs! Officers thus entitling them to serve those documents which the Offence Act requires to be served by a "Peace Officer". RAF/dv BQ. R.A.
