Province of Ministry of Parliament Buildings British Columbia Municipal Affairs Victoria British Coiumbia OFFICE OF THE MINISTER V8V 1X4 VIA COURIER 19 8 2 March 12th, His Worship Mayor Len Traboulay, . City of Port Coquitlan, 2272 McAllister Avenue, J PORT COQUITLAM, British Columbia. V3C 2A8 . MAR 75 1982 Your Worship and Members of Council:~ It has been brought to my attention that Council will be considering a request for permission to aerial spray a blueberry farm within the Agricultural Land Reserve. I take considerable interest in this pro- posal, because of the provisions of the proposed Land Use Act, which specifically assist agriculture and particularly the agricultural en~ deavours outlined in the A.L.R. I appreciate the political pressure placed upon Council when faced by opposition in the Might of environmental concerns, but I would point out that these concerns are narrow. in perspective, and are held by those who may be emotionally involved and fearful of the use of poisons for the control of mummyberry, mildew, black spot, etc. I, of course, am quite familiar with the use of Funginex and other such materials through our own greenhouse operations, and I appreciate that precautions and controls must be invoked in the use of this. fungicide or similar materials. I am sure that Council, in cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture and the Environment, will guarantee that these precautions are taken. Having established that, I would hope that Council will also take into serious consideration the need to allow farmers operating on agricultural land reserves to employ accepted methods in pursuing their agricultural endeavours. It is only in this way that we can assure the credibility of the Agricultural Land Reserves and guarantee that they shall always be protected. Thank you for your attention and consideration. Sincerely yours, William N. Vander MINISTER. Dictated, signed in his absence. Acevorn Pace (8A BR 14 mentor emeren + wa MAR 15.1982.
