The City Inginecr contacted Arlen Construction and the reviced Lid totals $28,620.09, To accomplish this figure however aonumber of deletions were made in the bid and these deleciuns stiil have to be financed by the City over and above the $25,000.60 fiyure, passibly out of the Parks Maintenance Budget. The City Engineer's recommendation is that the tvo contractors who tendered on this project be advised that both tenders are rejected and that the project be undertaken by the Engincering Departrent. 2. Reid's Hardware has requested stots Covacil's consideration of this in view of the fact that they are at a stage in their building construstion that they could add a canopy. Although overhana is permittcd in certain sign structures, canopies attached to buiddings are not permitted under our Building By-law and there is some question as to the legality of the City permitting construction over the strect. This question should be referred to the Building and Protection Conmittec, however, 1 mention it at this time in order that che Committee may benefit from the Council's coments and whether or not they feel the subject should be pursued.
