TOGETHER AGAIN: Donna Cooney, Larraine Stacy and Salty Smaha have been friends since 1953. The three came for their annual get-together in Terrace this July, and are seen here visiting Heritage Park. Friends for 52 years YVONNE MOEN AS LITTLE five year old girls, they played together while living in Vancouver, And now, 52 years later, as grown women they are slill good friends. And ear- lier in July the three long- time friends enjoyed a visit together in Terrace. The friendship of Sally Smaha, Donna Cooney, and Lorraine Stacy started back in 1947, Sally was five years old and at the time her and her mother were living wilh their grandparents in Vancouver, Now, just a little bit about the three girls meeting each other. In 1947, when Sally and ber miother Marin, who was a widow, were living in Vancouver with their grand- parents. And Lorraine at this time was living in the next block. The children would gather and play together as kids do. Aud this is when Sally and Lorraine became [riends. The two were somewhat different. Sally was shy and Lorraine more _ out-going. But, from the very: begin- ning they became — good friends and. have kept in touch and remained friends over the years. Later, Sally’s Marin met a man who was a widower, with a son John. The two fell in love and were married, Thus, Mr. and Mis. Ev Clift started their new. lives together, In 1952, the couple and. their tvo children made the move lo Terrace to live. In the summer, Sally would travel to Vancouver to live with her grand- parents. It was in the summer of 1953 that a new family moved in three doors down mother . the street. And they had a girl, who was Donna. So sally and Donna used to play with each other over the summer holiday every lime that Sally went down to Vancouver, And from this time they have always kept in touch wilh each other. And as they grew older they would al- ways arrange for a get- together. So earlier in July, the three girls made plans to be to- gether for a time in Terrace. Donna at the time was al- ready here, as she was doing some work at the CIBC Bank. And Lorvaine travelled to Terrace from Merritt where she lives for the get- together. Now rather than play little girl things, the three talked about the children and grandchildren.
