PORT COQUITLAM ANNUAL INVITATIONAL SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT 6 LABOUR-DAY WEEKEND June 18, 1976 © QUNC Council JUN 2 1 1976, The Corporation of the City . of Port Coquitlam 2272 McAllister Avenue Port Coquitlam, B.C. V3C 2A8 Gentlemen: As most of you are aware, the ESCO-Labatt's and POCO Transfer Softball Clubs have been co-hosting a twenty team softball tournament at McLean Park for the past four years. Considered by many to be the largest and best run tournament in B.C., we have approximately 12 teams from outside the lower mainland, with teams as far south as Sedro Wooley, Washington; as far east as Kelowna; as far west as Port Alberni on Vancouver Island and as far north as Prince George. During these last four years, a liquor permit has been granted by the local RCMP wherein we were allowed to sell beer to the participating teams and to the local fans. This year, although we have defined a specific area for both selling and consuming these spirits, the local constabulary have refused fo issue a permit unless the city council recognizes this tournament as a public or civic event. Qur request to Council is that you recognize this annual tournament as a civic event so as not to jeopardize the future of such a successful sports gathering. Your consideration of our request would be greatly appreciated. ' Sinvvun ef . Yours sincerely, Dave McMillan, Tournament Director Business Phone ~ 942~7261 Home Phone - 942-8670
