MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Aldermen FROM: Alderman G.R. Laking . RE: July 12, 1975 Meeting - Leasing of Port Theatre for Library PRESENT: Mayor J.M. Campbell . ir. Murphy - owner ¥.G. Borch, P.Eng. Mr. R. Voigt - Agent Alderman G.R. Laking The meeting discussed the possibility of the City leasing the old Port (Surf) Theatre for an interim library. Mr. Murphy was prepared to lease the building to the City for approximately -$4.00 per square foot and he would level the floor (actually $24,000. per year for the building). The building is only 5900 square feet on the main floor and about 350 square feet on the upper floor. “The City would have to paint the interior of the building, put in new lighting fixtures, carpet the floor plus a few other changes. As the Bacon Report recommended 10,000 square feet, this building is not adequate for the purpose required. I would recommend that Council proceed with agreement with Mr. Horner as quickiy as possible. I have checked all other buildings in the City Center for ground floor space, and there is no building availavle now or in the near future. Respectfully submitted, "G.R. Laking" Alderman
