For about a month now
it has been difficult to gain
access to walkways of
bridges that span the
Skeena River making
navigating up to the
bridges extremely difficult
and dangerous for pedestri-
ans.

The sidewalks on. the
newer bridges have been
cleared perhaps once this
year and that was quickly
‘filled again by plow trucks,

Many people — have
‘shared this observation and
‘their concerns about what
‘may result due to lack of
‘walk space. There simply
‘has been no place to walk
‘except on the main road-
way.

I wear very bright cloth-
ing when walking. My
jacket is made of highly
visible material, It is bril-
liant yellow with. black
half sleeves piped with 3M
reflection strips.

The jacket was - pur-
chased due to the highiy
visible mature and the
added safety of wearing it
while walking. Many peo-
ple recognize me by the
jacket.

On Dec. [5, 2003 at
2:30 p.m. I was walking in
knee deep snow approach-
ing the abutment of the
newer Skeena River bridge
from the townside (just
past [rlybird and heading
toward Thornhill),

There has been no
place to walk until a re-
cent clearing at Canadian
Waste extending toward
town. [ had already fallen
once and ended up in
waste deep material from
plow trucks.

I started up onto the
sidewalk of the bridge and

concerned looks on their

I turned to the left but
there was no place to go
except down a forty foot
embankment.

The plow truck did not
slow down, did not raise
the plow or move over
with the truck.

i was hit very hard with
the spray. Some of it
sprayed past me a good 20
feet. I was hit with slush,
rocks, sand’ and water.

I want to stop at this
time and commend
Nechako Northcoast for
their festive behaviours at

have plowed in some sen-

My knowledge about
raising or lowering a plow
is that it is far fram com-
plex or strenuous,

Pushing a hand lever
forward about an inch or
two will result in the plow
lowering. Pulling the lever
an inch or two will raise
the plow. These two move-
ments are nol quite as dif-
ficult as adjusting seat po-
sition, more like pushing
in the cigarette lighter
then pulling it out after.

1 would appreciate be-
ing corrected if raising a
plow is harder than what ]
described, I wait with in-
tense anticipation for ex-
pert advice on operation of
hand levers and hydraulic
valves.

If Nechako Northcoast
wants to gain a reputation
as a “dud”, they are well
on their way and they have
my vote.
