Old Remo pioneer passed away IRINA KLUKAS, an old Remo pioncer, passed away on Dec, 11, 1995 at the age of 93. She would have been § 94 in just over two months, Irina was born on Feb. 16, 1902 in Romania. She was | the fifth child of nine chil- dren of Samuel and Tatiana q Sezonov. During her younger years Irina was active in school, learning three different lan- guages. She was also part of the church youth group and ___ loved to sing in the choir. In Romania she met her husband to be — Oswaid Klukas, They were married on Oct. 14, 1923 and had five children —— Erna, Estella, Emil, Robert and Luise. During the Second World War Irina and her family fled from Romania. They spent two difficull years ina refugee camp near Vienna, Austria, until the winter of 1945, Then they moved near Posen in West Prussia, until the Russian army advanced and they had to flee again. During the next two years the family was scattered all over Fasten Europe, and lost contact with each other. However, two of the girls — Ema and Estella, managed to stay together. _HERE 'N THERE. YVONNE MOEN _ Erna was pul to work by the German army in a tefugee camp, and Estella was able to continue school. By the end of the war the girls had been moved to a camp in Czechoslovakia. During this time Erna had made frequent attempts to find their parents. Several times she tried to pet them past the Russian border, but enemy soldiers kept sending them back. Finally the family was able to escape from the Rus- sian zone. By some miracle all the family survived, and in 1951 they emigrated to Can- ada. They arrived first in Manitoba, moving west un- til they came to Old Remo in 1955. {rina was pre-deceased by B4 - The Terrace Slaridard, Wednesday, January 24, 1996 lrina Klukas her husband Oswald in March, 1977. Since then she has lived with Erna and her son-in-law Klaus Schulze, Trina Ktukas passed away at home on Dec. 11 at Old Remo. She will be remem- bered for her gentle spirit,and the way she saw only the good in people. Her last wish was to sec her long-lost grandson, Arost Klukas, In Sept. this wish came truc, as Amost aud his mother Ema, were reunited after nearly 50 years apart. That wish granted, [rina said she was ready. Irina will be missed by all her loved ones, She leaves relatives and friends all over the world, in Romania, Bul- garia the Czech Republic, Italy, . Germany, ULS.A., Chile and Canada. TLT telethon this March TERRACE LITTLE Theatre is gear- ing up for its first ever telethon this March. The telethon is to raise money to build a new 250 scat theatre to re- place the McColl Playhouse on Kalum SL That building was purchased in the mid-seventies, after an early career as a church, beauty salon and daycare. The McColl playhouse seats just 90 people, and while thal was sufficient in the past, the theatre group and the communily are outgrowing the build- ing. TLT’s first play this fall, Blood Re- lations, was so popular thal it sold out a week in advance of opening night. More than 200 people who wanted to see the play were tured away.
