Many Terrace people are unhappy about the way their mail is handled here. The most common cause of local frustration, indignation or despair Is the postal box system.. Letters for’ complete strangers have a way of frequently turning up in the wrong box which must cause concern as to who receives whose mail. It is unfair to belabor local postal employees for the continuing muddle. People came and go in this community and sometimes a single box charige - ownership four times within a year. The result while human being continue to be employed to sort the mail must inevit-.. - ably be unsatisfactory. We feel that the answer to this prob- . lem is mail delivery ta the homes. This would immediately reduce the... | number of boxes to a manageable quar- tityand cut down on the confusion of names and addresses. a - Kitimat, a community whose popule- ticn is less thon that of the combined Terrace-ThernhiJI area has already —re- Welcome, People in this area will receive a farewell from British Columbia's Lieut- enont-Governor this week. The decision to make the visit is in- dicative of the dedication of the Hon. George Pearkes to his vice regai post. Like his predecessor, the Ron, Frank Ross, he added a warm humanity to what is constitutionally a protocol-bound of- fice. His friendly personality has added that extra warmth to the vice-regal role which has won him deserved popularity = From. ‘the. churches. oF Thankegiving rite forgotten now By Pastor Alvin Penner | Bradford Thanksgiving is America’s old. est holiday, Three hundred and fom sik years ago, Governor ation: <-which fed'members of their community -time it leads to the consideartion that “Terrace is equally in needs .of direct ~ , mail delivery to the homes of its citizens, . We strongly feel if Hip- pies come to Terrace, there is no more control, Terrace is a nice clean town now with no skid-row — lets keep it that way, If Toronto, Calgary, and Van- ecouver do not want them, why should we? For curiousity? li so — let the curiousity seckers go where they are, and have a good look, As far as being virtuous. How about the virtue of our teen- age generation, As for having advantages and Terrace being Imown the width and breadth of the North Country, Sure it would, but not as the big hearted cit- izens who excepted the hippies but as the town of only ten thousand citizens who are willing to accept a “Yorkville” into ‘their community, As fay as belng the tourist at- traction of B.C, Who wants to be the centre of this kind of attraction ? If it is going to ruin the good quality of our future generation. If people feel psychedelic shops, are. needed lets leave them ini the plaéés they are now located, As far‘as we are concerned regarding the Riverside School site instead of a hippie village, how about apartments for the people who cannot afford high rents, If the town could afford to rehabilitate these buildings for Hippies —.can they-not afford to do this for the needy people who are already in this area. As far as the styles of the Letters to the editor say, why let them be influenced by the styles of the hippie, The majority of our teenagers have pretty good taste and do believe in a bar of soap; As. far as LSD making problems disappear into thinalr, this is just a way of hiding from something they are afraid toface up to. Tf the work of tha police force would be increased so would the amount ‘of staff. So in the Iong run — would our taxes not be raised? John Law may be busy now with charges alcohol.is much easier to detect than LSD, We hope the majority of Ter- race is with us on our. views on the Hippies, - K.G. and S.K, e 8 @ Editor, Herald: 7 appreciate your articles with a historical background very Much, .
