This is to advise the following resoluticn of Council was adopted Fire chier
at the regular August 3rd meeting: Personnel Director

WHEREAS the Firefighting services of British Columbia, including Buxmaby'a
need upgrading as British Coluzbia's fire loss record is one of the worst
in the Canadian Provinces as indicated by the Keenleyside Report and the
Federal Fire Marshal Office;

AND WHEREAS present training 1s not standardized and for thia reason lacks
support from the Fire Fighters;

ND WHEREAS the manageneat of Firefighting services is a complex function
involving nany disciplines;

AND WiEREAS management courses for Fire Fighters are scarcely available and
those that are avatlable in British Columbia are not adequate and not recognized
“between Firefighting bodies:

AND WHEREAS the Keenleyside Report recommends a Provincial Fire Fightezs' College
be established to provide the necded training to a Provincial standard re-
cognized by all Firefighting bodies in British Colyabia;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Council petition the Provincial Government
to cake an inediate start on a Fire Fighters’ College for the frovince of
British Coluxbia and that copies of this Resolution be sent to the Gzeater
Vancouver Regional District member Municipalities and to the Union of Sritish
Colurbia Municipalities asking them to write to the Provincial Governacnt
endorsing this resolution.
