Keryluk “UN 4 6 1078 We se While May Day is still fresh in our minds, this summary is presented for consideration by next year's May Day Committee. Again, while the successess ‘and short-comings of our recent May Day are clearly in mind, a committee should be set up by Council, including two members of Council, to take an _over-view of May Day and lay some ground work for next year. This report is in large part; a summary of views expressed by citizens to the author of this report. If one single concern were to be isolated, it would have to deal with “bringing PoCo back into our May Day". A close second concern would have te be the cost of imported talent for the parade. Could met some additional funds be directed toward promotion of exhibits of handi- crafts, home cooking, baking, preserves, etc.. Perhaps a competition could be set up with prizes for needlepoint, crocheting, knitting, ceramics, etc.. _A Committee could be set up to lay the ground rules with a specific organization ‘er organizations assigned the responsibility of soliciting displays, arranging ‘for judges and awarding the prizes. In the case of home cooking, pies, cakes, breadbuns etc., these could be sponsored by a specific organization. and auctioned off at the erid of the day's competition to raise funds for the competition concerned. School Paricipation: The elementary school participation in the May Pole Dance is excellent and requires no improvement. Three tents were set up for school displays with only a token participation. In the case of the George Pearkes School, over $500.00 of project equipment from a previous science fait was not set up because the tents were not set up by 3 o'clock Friday. An ecological mock-up of Burke Mountain was not set up for the same reason. A poetry exhibition by Grade 9 and 10 students was used as a sunshield for the cafeteria tent. A strong suggestion has been made to the effect that if schools are invited to participate, there must be a definite follow up. I have to assume this was not the case this year. In any case, the follow-up should include:
