~ POTTERS an COLUMBIA a WANTED! po You KNOW THIS POTTER? By Melany Hallam Another mystery to be solved. Are you up to the challenge? In the last newsletter, we showed you a number of mystery pots and the potters’ marks in the hopes of discovering the names of the potters. Before we had even published the newsletter, answers were provided by an avid pottery collector and regular patron at the Gallery of BC Ceramics, David Carlin, This month, no such luck. The photos on this page are of an unknown lovely salt glaze pot, found at a church bazaar by PGBC member, Debra Sloan, "I have a feeling it is not local,” writes Debra, "As the style and form does not correspond to anyone I know in B.C. working in salt, I wonder if it traveled here from England." Do you know this potter? If so, please email Debra Sloan at debraesloan@gmail.com. From the PGBC member web pages This newsletter series features your fellow guild members. This month’ web page profile is from Jane Wolters of Chemainus: I was born in England and have lived on Vancouver Island most of my life. I’ve been a professional potter for over 30 years and work mainly with stoneware and porcelain. My pots are mostly wheel-thrown and are fired in a gas kiln to achieve the copper reds, celadons and other beautiful reduction glazes I love. Although haven't attended art school, I did take wheel-throwing lessons in the beginning, and since then I’ve attended many workshops with potters from around the world. I have a studio and gallery in my home and. visitors are welcome by appointment. Potters Guild of BC Newsletter - February 2013 Exhibitionsincludea retrospective “Memories” at the Cowichan Valley Arts Council. My work has been accepted into the Sooke Fine Arts Show and I usually have pottery in the Cowichan Valley Fine Arts Show and other events held by CVAC.
