In selecting the recipients of the awards, the Celebration Committee js asked to seek out those who are an inspiration to others in the communi ty. The individuals and the business will have demonstrated the Olympic spirit in their chosen sport and community. Though the individuals should be accomplished in their endeavours, it is deemed more important that they hold the ideals of amateur sport in high regard. It is suggested that the recipients be associated with those sports which are Olympic related. However, a community may recognize non-Qlympic~sports participants, as well. HOW TO SELECT LOCAL RECIPIENTS FOR THE “CELEBRATION 88" CERTIFICATES The local Celebration Committee is asked to identify individuals who deserve recognition for their unselfish contribution to the community. This contribution can be of any “inspirational” nature and recipients can be recognized for demonstrating the Olympic spirit jin business, education, culture or community service, etc. As with the "Celebration 88" Medals, the Celebration Committee is asked to solicit nominations from the community and to select recipients by consensus. POSTHUMOUS AWARDS In some instances, a community may wish to honour the efforts of a citizen who is now deceased. This recognition may be by a medal or a certificate. This posthumous recognition may also be applied where an individual has been selected and passes away before the award has been presented. In both cases cited above, the committee should decide in advance who is to receive the award.
