_. COUNC JUL 30 4979 Mayor and Council July 26th, 1979 L.D. Pollock City Administrator Res Pedestrian Bridge Across Coquitlam River With the completion of the above mentioned bridge, the Provincial Government have asked the City to assume responsibility for the structure.’ Mayor Campbell has been made aware of certain deficiencies in the desi.gn and is aware that the aluminum railings have been damaged by vandals. In _ its present state, the bridge would appear to be a costly maintenance under- taking. After discussions with the Provincial representatives, Mayor Campbell sought to get a commitment that the Province would be responsible for repairs for a period of five years. The attached letter has been received setting out : the Solicitor's understanding of our position and asks for Council's concurrence prior to the matter being discussed in Victoria. The letter sets out the provision for the Government maintaining the bridge for a five year period, however, it specifically excludes the Province assuming any costs for modifications to the bridge. Council may wish to get some commitment now, in’ the event: the railing prove to be a costly maintenance item and it may be that the railings will require replacement with some modified design prior to the bridge being turned over to the City in five years time. If Council is in agreement with the proposal as outlined, we can inform the Provincial represeatatives. OC CE a LL.D. Pollock
