November 18th, 1974 That. this Council, through the office of the Mayor, take the initiative to form a delegation of all the Mayors in the Lower Mainland to go to Victoria to meet with the Attorney-General and request significant changes in the Juvenile Delinquency Act. Carried. Prior to passage of the above-stated resolution, a discussion ensued, and Alderman Ranger stated he felt that the motion was premature in view of the fact that it is proposed to hold a further seminar in January when it is hoped to obtain additional input on the subject. Alderman Laking stated he did not see the need to wait for additional input to indicate to Victoria the need for revisions in the Act. Alderman Mabbett suggested that perhaps it may be more appropriate to submit the matter to the Lower Mainland Municipal Association initially, and Alderman Laking stated that although he agreed it would be an excellent idea, the next meeting of that body will not be held until February, 1975; whereas the next sitting of the Legislature convenes in January. Mayor Campbell stated he would endeavour to obtain an indication as to how many municipalities think they have _ juvenile problem during the next short while. Alderman Alderman Traboulay referred to renewal of the R.C.M.P. contract and Traboulay re —meeting-jt. proposed the following motion: Pt.Coq.-Coq. policing Moved by Alderman Traboulay: facility. Seconded by Alderman Laking: That the Mayor of Port Coquitlam immediately contact the Mayor of the District of Coquitlam to set up a meeting of both Councils and the Inspector of the R.C.M.P. with regard to our joint policing facility to ensure that enough staff is employed to bring our force up to the standards set. Alderman Mabbett reported he had attended a meeting of the Coquitlam Ald.Mabbett re Coq.& Dis and District Hospital Society held last Thursday night, and advised that Hospital Society meet the Society has appointed the Architect, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, ing, etc. etc., for the hospital, and that it is proposed to have some type of contest to assign a name to the hospital.
