LANCASTER UNIVERSITY Computing Department Faculty of Applied Sciences Dear sir/madam, The Distributed Multimedia Research Group at Lancaster University is currently heavily involved in deploying a high performance wireless network throughout the city of Lancaster, with the intention of providing services to local residents and businesses. We very much see the Chiasma project proposed by Folly as one of these services. As part of the team working toward this deployment, I can confirm that the Chiasma proposal is of great interest to us for a number of reasons. 1) The project would act as a highly visible and interesting trial of our network. We are very keen to work with local organizations such as Folly to obtain real-world results from trialling novel real-world applications. 2) Such a project would place demands on the underlying network technologies which cannot easily be foreseen. These demands may well allow us to discover other research avenues. In summary, we strongly support the Folly's project proposal. We are prepared to provide several thousand pounds worth of wireless networking equipment, access to the Internet and a significant amount of technical support free of charge for the duration of the project to Folly to make this happen. We are very much looking forward to working with Folly on this exciting project. Yours Sincerely, Dr. Joe Finney Lecturer, Lancaster University.
