CITY GF POST COMMUTE AS ENGHNEENING DEPT. THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM MEMO TO: Igor Zahynacz November 2% City Engineer MEMO FROM: Gordon Voncina Operations Manager SUBJECT: Hyde Park Sanitary Pump Station Please be advised that we have experienced ever increasing problems with our sanitary pump station at Hyde Park. The sanitary pump station has an Add~a-phase convertor which has been malfunctioning. Graham Stewart, our electrician has repaired the unit several times, however, recommends the add-a~phase be removed and replaced with a 600 V service. The present two pump system is powered by 230 volt - 3 phase power. In the past, we have found these pump stations unreliable due to the insufficient power available to grind anything but the smaller pieces of waste flowing into the station. During heavy rains considerable infiltration of water oceurrs in the system which adds to the pumping problem, causing the pumps to run continuously. Pump no. 2 is presently shut down and unavailable should pumping be required. It is recommended that the City replace the Add-a-phase and upgrade the electrical system within the pump station expeditiously to correct the present problems and eliminate the excessive level of maintenance required to keep the pump station operating. A breakdown of estimated costs are provided for your review: B.C. Hydro to install 600 V $ 7,000 Removal of Add-a-phase $ 2,500 Upgrade electrical service & lines c/w transformer $ 4,000 Flygt to upgrade both pumps $ 2,000 TOTAL ESTIMATE $15,500 Would you kindly advise the Public Works Committee of the problen, requesting a source of funding for the remedial work.
