_ ™ FORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM COUNCIL FEB 17 198g MEMORANDUM TO: 8. Kirk February 7, 1986 City Administrator FROM: F.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Engtneer SUBJECT: Extension of Curb at 1766 Western Orive - Publle Works Committee - February 4, 1986 Recommendation: That an asphalt curb be installed on the south side of Lamprey Avenue to Join the existing concrete curb with the driveway Into the property and that the entire curb from the corner to the driveway be painted yellow to prevent parking with the cost of approximately $500.00 to be taken from unallocated funds In the Public Works Budget. Background and Comments: The owner of this property has had a perpetual problem with school children cutting across the corner and this was dealt with In past years by placing a limestone surtace across the corner. A concrete curb extends part way from the Intersection and with this curb the road is not wide enough to allow parking without Interfering with traffic. However, recently cars have been parking at thls Intersection by driving across the boulevard and even backing In behind the partial curb. The Committee wishes to prohibit this parking In order to protect the boulevard. However, placing parking signs by themselves wiftl not necessarily solve the problem as drivers can still back In behind the signs. The Committee teels that an extension of the curb Is needed to solve this problem. At the same time, there Is some breakup of the edge of the pavement and this would have to be repalred prior to Installation of the curb. Once the curb is Installed there ts the need for a palnted yellow curb to prohibit parking due to the narrow dth of the V4 ti wo” Fle. Peters City Engineer FEP/kIn 42 a 5 % Q 4
