. . . , ; THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT CONUITLAM JS 0 i N $ MEMORANDUM rs OCT 1979 { OCT 145 1979 TO: Mayor and Council September 27th, 1979 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee Meeting held September 25th, 1979. IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman P.F. Ranger Alderman J.J. Keryluk F.E. Peters, P. Eng.,, City Engineer Mr. Vie Sharman of B.C. Hydre for Item II ITEM It Re: B.C. Hydro Transit Service . Mr. Vie Sharman of B.C. Hydro Transit had been invited to answer questions about the level cf service in Port Coquitlam. A good discussion took place in which a number of questions were answered. Council had been concerned about a possible cutback in service on routes into Port Coquitian. According to Mr. Snarman, there has been no‘cutback in service and in fact there has been some increase. Although some of the: buses on some of the routes: are running full, there is a difficulty in adding more buses to the fleet just to service this traffic. .B.C. Hy@ro will he -Giverting four more buses to serve this area next month but that will not make a significant difference. : : oo, The direct connection to Lougheed Mall, during the peak hour which had been reimplemented as a result cf Council's study last year was experiencing disappointing ridership. Mr. Siiarman felt that this might increase with time as the bus had only been in operation since Suly 20th, 1979, With regard to the use of the Rec Centre Parking Lot for park and ride, it was felt that this may possibly have been the result of the opening of the Coquitlam Centre. It was felt that a number of the users of this lot may have been residents . of Pitt Meadows or Maple Ridge who now have a more convenient place to park in the Coquitlam: Centre lot. B.C. Hydro aqreed to undertake a survey of the park and ride users to find out where they were coming from. | Mx. Sharman-suggested that the City could encourage .* more transit usage by making a point of advertising the park and ride lot. However this might.work against transit in the long run if enough people responded to overload the existing _- buses. - , . . Other general areas of transit such as special reserved anes and articulated buses were also discussed. B.C. Hydro will be testing an articulated bus this fall on some of its routes but decisions as to ordering these buses would eventually be made by UTA rather than'B.C. Hydro. -
