January 19th, 1976 with our employees from the G.V.R.D. and Alderman Ranger said he would welcome the opportunity to help the U.B.C.M. become a good independent co-ordinator as this City does not want a negotiator but rather background information to assist the Administrative Staff with their own negotiations, and suggested that the G.V.R.D. be dropped and the U.B.C.M. supported, Alderman Laking agreed that this was a better proposal than anything that had been offered by the G.V.R.D. and would urge its support and that support of the G.V.R.D. labour function be terminated. Alderman Thompson suggested that for the cost involved, he could not see how such an offer could be turned down. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That this Council support the U.B.C.M. offer to provide increased labour relations research and information and agree to the additional cost to be incurred. Carried. Alderman Traboulay expressed concern over the implication that zonal bargaining would then take place, however, the City Administrator indicated SB bp ry niet ce cos A ete rat that he had taken item l(a) of the questicnnaire to mean for information only, as they had statea in the letter that they were not prepared to undertake the negotiating function at this time. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That the City refuse to pay the Greater Vancouver Regional District its share of the 25% of the cost of the Labour Relations Function because See SE we have not received any benefits from same.
