I— you’re in Mills Memorial
on a weekend you could spot
the ever-willing nurse-assisting
Candy Striper.

But it’s not a bird,

hours each weekend to help out
at the hospital.

To become a member they have
to be 15 years old, or in Grade
10, and according to Chrys Na-
hirny “fit for a nursing career."

Candy Stripers have five major
jobs to do in thelr weekend
chores: dining room, pediatrics,
central supply room, women’s
ward, and gift shop.

ceived her bib, cap and pin,

Locally Candy Stripers’ or-
ganization isn’t too complex.
They all attend SkeenaSecondary
and notice of meetings are posted
on the school notice board,

The girls meet once a month,
discuss problems encountered
jin their hospital work, and plan
their activities,

They work with an adult mod- | |
erator and, according to presi-.
dent Chrys Nahirny are study-
ing the possibility of hearing
guest lecturers,

The presidency of the Candy
Stripers isn’t too onerous but
it does carry some problems,
like handing out the assignments
for volunteér work at the week-
