We also asked permission fo file certain documents in French in court (in order to minimize translation costs, etc.), and fhat was challenged by the prov- incial government. This latter question is now before the Supreme Court of Can- ada; the hearing will be held in Ottawa on Monday, April 15, 2013. Several partners support us in our process with the legal case: the Fédé- ration des francophones de C.-B., local Francophone organizations, parents’ associations, staff at CSF schools, as well as parents whose children have attended Francophone schools in the statements from parents, members of school staff, and members of the com- munity who can support the legal case through their personal and professional experience. The purpose of the proceed- ings is not only to set up Francophone schools that are equivalent compared to Anglophone schools when it comes to capital assets, but also a funding process that better meets the specific needs of the Francophone education system in our province. In conclusion, the Fédération des par- ents would like to warmly thank all those who, at various levels, are committed to this cause. We invite you to contact us if you would like more information, or if you have any questions on this crucial case file for our schools. The hearings for this ap- plication were held in May and June 2012. The APE received the assistance of the CSF and the Fédération des parents with its efforts. A favourable judgment was pronounced on October 31, 2012, stipulating that the Ecole Rose-des- vents was not equivalent to the schools serving the Anglophone majority in the area, which contravenes Article 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. However, in November of the same year, the provincial govern- ment gave notice of its intention to appeal the judgment. The appeal will be heard by the British Columbia Court of Appeal in spring 2013, although the dates are still io be determined. To be continued... past.
