I trust that by now Mr. Freeman has received my letter of April 22, 1986, explaining this Ministry's. position with regard to the care of the mentally retarded. Although there are no plans at the present time to close Woodlands Institution, the Ministry of Human Resources is committed to moving people into the community when they are ready and resources become available. With respect to the request that a Ministry representative meet with the Municipal Council of The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam, I suggest that Wayne Nickel, Regional Manager of the Coquitlam/Maple Ridge area, be contacted. He will be able to. address your Council's concerns about the Ministry's policies regarding the care of the mentally retarded, particularly as these affect Port Coquitlam.
