City Engineer City of Port Coquitlaa to FROM | DATE 2272 McAlister Avenue ~ PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. {ta tf Recently, equestrian recreation in this area suffered a serious setback . “when the laese on Equestrian Park, held by the District of Coouitlan, was terminated by the ower of the land, Deer Sirs RE: Water connection to Rouestrian Facilities The City of Port Coquitlam, recognizing the ensuing difficilties for followers of a major recreational activity in. this area, generously offered a site on which we would be free to develop appropriate facilities. Regrettably, we found thet the gost of developing this particular site was - beyond our monetary capabilities, CS The Distric’ of Coquitlam-then offered an alternuta site in Coouitlan | River Park,’ between Sheughnessey Street and the Coquitlam River, north of Lincoln Avenue(Appendix I, attached). The nature of the soils, tovogrephy and vegetstion on this sita were such that we felt that this saw a vieble ‘prospect, albeit one which would stretch our resourses. Consequently, we have undertaken a programme of construction and development on this site with the objemtive of having a functional equestrian facility _ im place in time to permit us’to proceed with the presentation of our traditional May Day Challehge Horse Show in conjunction with Port Coquitlam's May Day Festivities. We expect the riding surfaces of the competition and practice rings will useable by next week. In addition we have submitted a request for an employment grant under the N.E.E.D. programme to permit us to complete the full development, by early September, a complex equal to or ~ better than the old Equestrian Park, . A major need at this tims is for a water supply. Our proposed buildings and watering. points appear to be much closer to Lincoln Avenue thah to any point at which we could connect to the Coquitlam water system. Wea therefor solicit your favourable response to our request that the City of Port Coguttlam provide a water connection on the north side of Lincoln Avenue, west of Shaughnessey Street, for a 3/4" or 1" line. To meet the objective noted above, we would like to be able to connect to the water system within six weeks. — 22
