Care Centres Committe has received a request from Simon Fraser Health Unit for approval of two Family Day Care Licences in residential areas. These would be for up to 5 children. The Simon Fraser Health Unit have changed their procedures somewhat on this, in that they are writing individually to the various Inspection authorities to obtain approval and have written to the City to approve these under our present Zoning By-law provisions. The Committee xecommends that the licences be approved subject to the Simon Fraser Health Unit receiving approvals from the various other Inspection authorities. A map is attached showing the location of the two current applications. 4. Family Month The Committee met with Bev LeFrancois and discussed involvement in the Family Month Programme which is scheduled for the month of May. The Committee will be reporting further on this and will be co-ordinating publicity of this event. 5. New View Society A letter is attached from Mr. MacDonald, representing the Western Association for Youth and the New View Society. The New View Society are presently using space in the Dalkey Building and have asked the Council to consider making the property commonly known as ‘PoCo House' available for their use. The Committee does not feel that it would be appropriate to remove paying tenants from this house to turn it over for public use. Council has, in the past, received similar requests, all of which have been turned down and it would not be fair at this time to consider the New View Society as a priority need. The Committee also expressed the view that although the City has made space available to the New View Society, we have never been in involved in financing the group and that assistance should more than likely be coming from the Provincial Government rather than the Municipal level. The Committee cannot recommend approval of this request.
