mechanic of the year for
Edmonton. He is presently
employed by Oanco Equipment in
Edmonton.

ber 14, 1923 and immigrated
with his family to the Bulkley
Valley in 1937, He served in the
Canadian Army for 8 years, [ol-
lowed by logging, prospecting,
welding and farming. After rais-
ing a family on a farm in the val-

ince as a carpenter for several
years belore settling in Terrace.
Bill is predeceased by his par-
ents Fritz and Rosa Gyger, his
older brother Fritz Jr., older
sister Rosa Luder of Brazil, his
youngest son David and grand-
son Dirk Mendel, He is survived
by his sisters Mary Walton and
Emma Dohler of Smithers,
children Theresa Brinkac of Ft.
Nelson, Ken Gygar (Eilean) of
Nanaimo, Darlene Mendel (Eck-
aid) of Smithers, Gwen Hunter
(Don) of Thelly Island, nine
grandchildren and two great
grandchildren. Memorial servic-
es were held Nov. 6, at the
MacKay Funeral Home in Ter-
race with reception following at
the Legion Hall, In feu of flow-
ers donations to Tetrace Lagion
Branch #13 for distribution to
the extended care unit at Mills
Memorial Hospital and War

Al abou! oye 12, while horseback riding in Rosswood, Elinor met George
Frederick Spencer, On January 27, 1941 thay wore married,

Elinor ond George lived their first year af married life in the Noss in a lag
house which Georga had built. George's parents, Benjamin and Anno Spencer
lived near by.

Hinor ond George then moved to Hazetion where George was working in
tha “Red Rase” mine.

In 1944 Elinor and George started their family with George Jr, the first of 8
children, Ta follow were: Jim, Phillip (deceased), David (deceased), Herb,
Lourel, Jeff & Shirley,

George Jr. Was born at Hazelton. Second son Jim was born in the “Old
Hole!” of the foot of Kelvin Lake. The other six wera born in Terrace, They then
maved la Rosswood lived foro time of the “Goat Ranch” Next they bought pro-
perty in Rosswood and built o log home there in 1949. They lived there for
many years as well as having a house on Kolum Lake Drive in Terrace.

Loter they sold the place on Kalum Lake Drive and bought a house on the
Queen Charlotte's. They traveled back ond forth, spending time at both places,

In life, Hlinor enjoyed the outdoors, She loved to go fishing, hunting for
Grouse or collecting agates on the beach, Elinor was also an avid gardener ond
mony hoppy hours were spent picking berries or such with her children, who
enjoyed the fruits of thelr labars. Elinor worked side by side with her hushand
Geerge to build a home and roise their children thraugh good times and
hordships.

George Spencer Sr. Passed away in 1982 and Elinor lived the remoinder of
hi years in Resswood where mos! of her children ond grandchildren stil live
today.

Upon har passing, Oct, 18, 1996 il may be considered like the end of on era
as Elinars was one of the lost true old-timers of Rosswood,

The family of the late Elinor Spencer would like to express their appreciation
