Heighington wants a piece of property he owns on Eby St. ‘between Park Ave. and Lazelie Ave. rezoned from two-family residential to central commercial. According to his application, he plans on building a 4,500 square foot cement block building to house a dry cleaning business, retail outlet. A public hearing held on Sept. 17 heard strong opposition, not to commercial development on the property, but the potential for that development to be incompatible with the surrounding residential area. A pelition with 72 signatures poinied out that the central com- mercial zone permits a great variety of . business enterprises, many incompatible with residential housing, and as a buffer zone future development should be confined to specific types of deve- lopments Council considered Heighington’s a application on Oct. 15 and on a laundromat and a yet-unidentified - motion by alderman Danny Sheridan it was approved to pro- ceed to third reading.
