qu’on n’aime pas le soleil a
Prince Rupert? Uh ... quand
c’est le temps de notre Cabane
a Sucre en janvier ... oui.
Absolument. Nous préférons
la pluie!

Comme déja mentionné,
AFFNO a célébré notre 8iéme
festival de la Cabane a Sucre
le 24 au 27 janvier, avec le
point culminant, le brunch de
la Cabane a Sucre, au Cen-
tre Civique de Jim Ciccone.
C’était une journée incroyable
a Prince Rupert avec beaucoup
de soleil, et oui, croyez le ou
non, cela a affecté la présence
des gens a cet événement.

Avant que vous disiez que
nous sommes fous, laissez-moi
expliquer: en 2016 et 2017,
notre Festival de la Cabane a
Sucre avait une salle remplie a
capacité — ol on avait vendu
chaque billet. Par exemple,
l’année passée, on avait seule-
ment environ 40 billets 4
vendre a la porte.

La pluie dehors était en
plein essor, et presque 15
minutes aprés avoir ouvert nos
portes, les billets étaient tous
vendus.

Mais, avance-rapide a 2018.
Méme chose, environ 40 billets

a vendre a la porte, et dehors,
mon dieu, il faisait beau. A la
fin de notre festival, on avait
encore 21 billets a vendre, et
aussi, c’était évident que peut-
étre entre 10 et 15 personnes
qui avaient acheté leurs billets
en avance ne s’étaient pas
montrés.

Quand méme, on avait une
augmentation de bénévoles,
alors plus de 320 personnes
ont participé a cette Capane a
Sucre.

Les Gypsy Moondogs de
Terrace, qui ont aussi joué
la musique a Kitimat (voyez
l’article a la page 6), étaient

une place pour danser!

Our crazy eighth Sugar Shack Festival

his might be a strange
question to ask, but
do we not like sun

in Prince Rupert? Uh ... when
it’s time for the Sugar Shack
in January, absolutely not! We
prefer rain!

As you all know, AFFNO
celebrated our 8th annual
Sugar Shack Festival January
24 to 27, with the highlight
being the Sugar Shack Brunch,
which was held at the Jim Cic-
cone Civic Centre. It was an

amazing day in Prince Rupert,
with tons of sunshine and yes,
believe it or not, this affected
attendance numbers at the
Sugar Shack.

Before you say that we’re
crazy, let me explain: in both
2016 and 2017, our Sugar
Shack Festival celebrated sell-
outs, with every ticket sold.

For example, last year, we
had approximately 40 tickets
to sell at the door. The rain
outside was heavy, and not
even 15 minutes after opening

the doors, the tickets were all
sold out.

But fast-forward to 2018.
Same thing, approximately 40
tickets available at the door,
and outside, wow, what a gor-
geous day.

And at the end of the festi-
val, there were still 21 tickets
for sale, and also, there were
likely 10 to 15 people who
bought tickets who did not at-
tend the event.

That said, we had an in-
crease of volunteers, meaning

more than 320 people partici-
pated at the Sugar Shack.

The Gypsy Moonsdogs
from Terrace, who also per-
formed live in Kitimat (see the
article on page 6), provided
the music at the festival. There
was a ton of food for our par-
ticipants, toffee on the snow, a
children’s station (and face-
painting), and even a place for
people to dance!
