THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee was held in the Port Coquitlam Recreation Office on May 23rd, 1984 at 4:00 p.m. In attendance were Alderman Farnworth, Alderman Keryluk and Alderman A Stewart. Also in attendance was K. Janna Taylor, Parks and Recreation Director. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES That the minutes of the meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee held on Wednesday, May 9th, 1984, be taken as read and adopted. Item No. 1 Extension The attached report was reviewed by the committee. Janna Taylor indicated that there were 3 major areas which she felt the Department has to address; Hyde Creek Indoor Pool extension, Reeve Street area plan, and the Wilson Centre extension. In order to realistically look at these 3 areas Ms. Taylor indicated that the Committee should seriously consider hiring to look into the feasibility and costing a ofconsultant the Hyde Creek Indoor Pool extension and the Wilson Extension; also there is a need to do a detailedCentre plan with cost estimates for the Reeve Street area. It was suggested that the committee should look into the terms of reference for these possible projects at a latter date. After Reeve Street construction has been completed there should be some money left to hire a consultant to do such a study. Recommendation: That the Parks and Recreation Committee (after the construction of Reeve Street), come up with terms of reference to do a study of Hyde Creek, Wilson Centre and Reeves Street. CARRIED Recommendation: That the Wilson Centre Building Committee be invited to meet with the Parks and Recreation Committee on June 20th, 1984 at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. CARRIED Item No. 2 Mav Dav — Snecial "Thank-vou's" There were certain individuals who were extremely important in the planning of the May Day and these people should Continued... receive a special "thank-you" letter from the Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Committee. Ms. Taylor come up with a list of these people and have the will letters drawn up for Alderman Keryluk's signature. ,Recommendation: That the special "Thank-you's" be sent by the Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Committee. Item No. 3 CARRIED Mabbett Room In previous years the Mabbett has been closed for the months of July and August. Room There is a cost saving to the City and there is not a great demand for the rental of the facility during these months. Recommendation: That the Mabbett Room be closed for the months of July and August. CARRIED Item No. 4 Reeve Street Construction It was reported that due to the wet weather the works crews have had difficulty doing work on the site. The water table is extremely high in the area. The crews have had to do some extra in order to find the proper area for drainage. digging However the intent is still to have the field built by the end of June 1984. Recommendation: That the report be received. CARRIED Item No. 5 B.M.X. Track It was brought of the committee that a lot of water wasto inthetheattention parking lot at the track.
