And they’re just getting started. Drive manager Bill Stewart visited Vancouver Island points last week and returned in an optimistic mood. As the figures show, Cumberland is nearing its $150 target. Lake Cowichan raised clsoe to $200 in a few days, plans to hang on to the provincial PT shield they won last year. Nanaimo, after a slow start, is get- ting into the swing and plans a big windup dance at Chase River Hall May 30. Port Alberni has pledges to cover its quota, is just getting up steam. Victoria is also confident. In Campbell River, where unemployment is a big problem, press supporters range in age from 13-year- old Georgie Hewison to his 86-year-old grandfather. Georgie, an honor press builder in the past, is still aiming high and is appealing to readers who gave him a help- ing hand in other years to assist him again this year. The province now has 17 Press Builders ($25 or more), 2 Premier Press Builders ($50 or more) and 3 Honor Press Builders ($100 or more). Greater Vancou- ver has 37 Press Builders and 3 Honor Press Builders. Demonstrating that the fight for cash and the battle for subscriptions go hand in hand, Broadway press clubs leads in both departments, with over $400 collected on a target of $425, and 56 subs on its year’s quota of 100. Top Honor Press Builder (city and province) is Bil] Hreherchuk, with $175 to his credit. Two contenders are right at his heels, however, with $150 each.
