WELCOME!

It gives me great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all
participants, families, and organizers involved in the 8th Annual
Festival du Sucre d’Erable to be held in February, 2008. This year we
look forward to another high caliber program of cultural, musical and
culinary offerings sure to please all ages and tastes. :

This annual February event in Nanaimo has gained a reputation
Jor attracting not only the francophone community, but also the
Anglophone community from throughout Vancouver Island and the
lower Mainland of BC. Within a community offering a large choice of
festivals and events, the Maple Sugar Festival du Sucre d’Erable is
now enthusiastically anticipated by participating school groups and our
residents and visitors who enjoy the Canadian entertainment showcase
during the week long festival.

On behalf. of the citizens of Nanaimo and City Council, | wish
the L’Association des francophones de Nanaimo another successful year
and we look forward to new plans to expand the Maple Sugar Festival
in the years leading up to the 2010 Olympics and Paralympics. —

Hello, Dear Friends

On behalf of L'Association des francophones de Nanaimo's members,
board of directors, ap, and many volunteers, I am delighted to welcome you to
the 2008 edition of the Maple Sugar Festival du Sucre d'Erable, Vancouver

Island’s premier bilingual event. We are thrilled a are joining us this year

to celebrate Aboriginal traditions as well as French Canadian culture. You will
learn about First Nations culture in French and E:nglish, including ancient maple
sugar cultivation, as well as enjoy Native performing and visual arts.

Our team of Festival volunteers is incredible. They organize, build, cook,
serve, greet, clean, pack, and dismantle nith heart and with ous every year.
Without their ongoing dedication, we could not bring you a cultural event of this
magnitude.

Dear Francophones and Francophiles,

The Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique welcomes
all visitors to the Maple Sugar Festival, organized by the Association des
Srancophones de Nanaimo (AFN).

From February 20st to 24th the Festival will be presenting to all those
who attend, a unique opportunity to celebrate the francophone culture that is
alive and well in the heart of our province.

The Maple Sugar Festival is also an opportunity to create partnerships :
and build bridges between different cultures. This year, First Nations people, —
their francophone charm and traditions will be highlighted during the Festival. _

We are very proud of the partnerships that the Association des —
Jrancophones de Nanaimo has developed with the City o Nanaima the
Province of Quebec and now, with the First Nations Community. AFN
made it possible for the Francophones of BC to flourish and shine on the
provincial and national stage. Css _

I would like to congratulate and thank the Association des franco-
phones de Nanaimo as well as all the volunteers involved in the Festival.
