... page 2 - Leigh Square Medical building The committee then reviewed the options available: kL. Renovate the building at an estimated cost (not including architect fees, millwork and signage) of $500,000. As mentioned above, there is not an immediate need for more space, however in the two to ten year time period there will be a need for some staff expansion particularly in the Engineering and Treasury areas. This space can be more economically provided by making the planned Works Yard Administration building a little larger to make room for the survey crew and Purchasing staff. This small change to the Works Yard Administration building is expected to cost $60,000. Demolish the building and allocate some funds immediately for display cases for City Hall to enable the viewing of historical information and to provide visitor parking for City Hall. Combining Mr. Barkley’s comment that the proposed expenditure of over $500,000 would only buy us ten to fifteen years with the fact that we do not have an immediate need for additional space leads to the recommendation. Council may be concerned with public reaction to demolish a building which we purchased but we should remember where the building is located and knowing future City Hall expansion plans, we had no choice, we could not let anyone else purchase the property. Attached are copies of the Barkley reports and a layout of the proposed parking lot, which would be public parking with a 2 hour limit. J. Maitland, City Treasurer - Deputy Administrator
