Further to our reeenr discussion, we understand that prospective contrectors for
tae above project have requesied that consideration be given to the use of river sand fill
in place of the following Sill types required by the specificarions:

Type 1 - Free draining, weil greded i50 mmm. minus sand aud gravel with
| less than 2% passing 20.075 mm sieve.

Type 2 - Well graced, 150 mm minus sand and exavel with less than 5%
passing a 0.075 mm sieve.

The Type 1 Sil is to be used for a 600 mm thick drainage blanket to be placed on
the existing slones at the base cf the new road embanionent AE and the Type 2 Sil is to
be used as the general embanlment fll Embantment slopes will be constructed at
1.5 korizontal to 1 vertical

Considering the function of the Type 1 and Type 2 Gl mazerials and embantanent
Slopes, we reconemend that river sand not be accepted as a substimire for the specified
Type i and Type 2 sand and gravel fills.
