COUNCIL - MEMORANDUM OCT 22 1984 TO: B. Kirk, ; October 17, 1984 City Administrator FROM: F.E. Peters., P. Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: Variety Club Paper Bin - Works and Services Committee, October 16th, 1984, RECOMMENDATION: That the Variety Club be atlowed to use the Mapie Drive parking. lot for their paper bin but that it be sited at the southeast corner away from the river and that this permission be subject to the Variety Club providing direct supervision and cleanup of the site on a regular basis. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: Our previous recommendation for the use of this site was referred back to the Committee for further study and meetings with the Variety Club. There obviously was a misunderstanding previously about the effectiveness of this site for the Variety Club. Mr. Aceman indicates that it Is a good site and does make money for the Variety Club. A copy of a letter which is attached indicates that they would be pleased to have this site back. The Committee was not able to come up with any alternate sites on City property which would be as suitable as this site. There may well be sites on private property which the Variety Club could arrange on thelr own. The advantages of this site are exposure to the public, visibility from a main road, plenty of parking, and being in an area where it does not create litter problems for residential’ homes. The Committee would like the bin to be located at the corner of the parking tot away from the river so that there Is less temptation for paper to be thrown into the river. fer.
