Eng., City Engineer ITEM I Extra Parking for Lady of Assumption Church The Church has once again requested that Council exempt it from the parking restrictions on Shaughnessy Street in front of the church in order to allow extra parking for the Christmas Eve mass. The exemption would apply from about 5:00 p.m., Christmas Eve to 2:00 a.m. Christmas morning. As usual, the church would be responsible for covering the parking signs and removing the coverings after they are finished. The Committee recommends that parking restrictions on Shaughnessy Street between Fraser Avenue and Prairie Avenue be lifted for the period from 5:00 p.m., December 24th to 2:00 a.m., December 25th. aa i i i | i i 2 . | : 5 4 i é i ITEM IT Re: Secondary Highway Construction Grant The section of Pitt River Road from Shaughnessy to McLean was constructed in 1980 with a 50% Secondary Highway Grant from the Department of Highways. The Secondary Highway Grant is completely independent of the Revenue Sharing Grant but applies only to designated secondary nighways. = One large remaining section of the secondary highway system which is in need of upgrading is the section of Kingsway between Broadway and the new Mary Hill By-Pass. The Committee would like Council to consider upgrading this section of Kingsway in the 1981 Budget for several reasons. The road base is weak and the surface is deteriorating hadly in a number of places. We also now have sanitary sewer available along Kingsway which will lead to the development of the remaining industrial parcels and an increase in heavy truck traffic on this road. Finally, we are
