WHE CORPORATION OF THE CiTY OF PORT COQUITLAM -~2- of coastal rivers and is subject to such changing velocities that removal of gravel bars is only a temporary solution and build up will occur again the next time there is high runoff. It was also mentioned that the problem of erratic flows in the river has largely been eliminated in the past few years because B.C. Hydro have been cooperating in controling the flow from the dam. It was also mentioned that one of the main contributors to the silting problem is still the gravel operations upstream in the District of Coquitlam. Mx. Bruce Cox of the Fish & Wildlife Branch mentioned that some of the answers on river flows will be forthcoming in the current Coquitlam River Study that is being carried out by the Department of Water Resources. He suggested that the Committee determine the status of the report. He also mentioned that he would be attending a meeting in Victoria on February 5th, 1976 to discuss the study. The Committee asked if it would be possible to have a representative of the Hunting & Fishing Club attend this meeting and arrangements were subsequently made to have Mr. Bill Campbell attend. Mr. Cox advised that he would try and arrange to have representatives of the Water Resources Branch attend the next meeting of the Environmental Protection Committee which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24th, 1976. The Committee will get a progress report on the Coquitlam River Study at that time and will report further to Council.
