4) 1-405 MEMBERSHIP FORUM Lively discussions of IWA objectives in the Southern In- terior featured a successful membership forum sponsored by Local 1-405 IWA in Nelson, January 14-15. At intervals, the fifty West Kootenay IWA members in attendance divid- ed themselves into four “buzz groups” to determine their own views on informative ma- terial made available to them. Regional President Jack Moore participated in the dis- cussions and toward the con- clusion of the workshop ably outlined the essential require- ments for success in the forth- coming Interior negotiations, dealing fully with all points in a question and answer period. Admirable arrangements for the convenience of members in attendance made by Local Union officers Art Damstrom, Elmer Atwood and Jack Mun- ro promoted a congenial and informal atmosphere with a resulting and marked expres- sion of membership solidarity. So keen was the interest shown by the members that they voluntarily extended their’ discussions for several hours overtime. Regional Education Director Grant MacNeil, aided by CLC Education Director Dan: Rad- ford led discussions on IWA history. and the principles of collective bargaining. Material for discussion was. continuous- ly presented on a “daylite” screen and was supplemented by notes prepared for all the students to enable future re- ference. A merry and informal so- cial evening on the Saturday of the workshop was warmly appreciated by the members and wives, many of whom had travelled from distant points over icy roads. A warmly- - applauded feature of the so- cial evening was the presenta- tion by the combo, “Jack and Skip” of labour and folk songs. The members of this combo, who are industrial workers in the area, have ‘achieved a justly - deserved popularity in trade union circles. =o ET) BROADWAY PRINTERS printers and lithographers since 1911 115 EAST 8th AVENUE VANCOUVER 10, B.C.
