THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM Bryan Kirk DATE: January 30, 1992 C.F. (Kip) Gaudry, P. Eng. Deputy City Engineer SUBJECT: Environmental Protection Committee reviewed the following information at their regular meeting of January 15, 1992. The recycling budget for 1992 was arrived at after substantial debate by both Environmental Protection Committee and Council. As a result, J summarized the recycling program and how it is to proceed in 1992. Budget The final Provisional Budget for the 1992 recycling program is as shown in Appendix No. 1 and consists of a gross budget of $744,300 with a revenue of $20,000 from a Provincial Grant for home composters and an additional $20,000 from the sale of home composters. The net 1992 budget will be $704,300. A further breakdown of this total is presented on Appendix No. 1. The program started in 1991 will be continued in 1992 and made more efficient where ever possible. This will include publication of a recycling news letter from the City to all residents; newspaper advertisements; publication of environmental recycling tips by newspapers; possible distribution of more free bags to residents; and other promotional ideas. With the final approval of Council in December, 1991, the department has started signing up as many of the multi family units as possible. The intent is to deal with all the multi family units that have already contacted the City or requested consideration. Once these have all been dealt with, all additional ones will be identified and either contacted by telephone, in person, or through a general letter mailing. Cont’d /2...
