HOW THE ARFAS WILL BE USED

FIRST FLOOR 1,837 sq.ft.

The proposal for the First floor is that it be used as a multi-purpose
library activity centre. It will be inviting, relaxed in atmosphere,
‘esthetically appealing and the place in the city of Port Coquitlam to come
and enjoy. There will be camfortable chairs and lounges for people to sit and
read, music listening facilities will be provided. A selection of library
materials will be handy such as magazines, pocketbooks , recreational reading,
novels, special displays, booklists, a browzing area. Slide shows,

picture loans, film shows are possibilities. Television could be used.

Chess games are a possibility.

One part of the area, approximately 350 sq.fts« will be separated and made
into a childrents story room but it will be a multi-purpose room which can be
booked for small meetings or music listening.

Innovative use of moveable acoustical screens will make it possible to close
off parts of the open area for private use by groups or individual activity.
Decor will be appropriate to the mood.

One staff member will be scheduled to work on the first floor assisting

those who need help, she will be in telecommunication with the staff of the
second floor and will be able to get library materials for those who do not’
or can not use the stairs.

It is anticipated that Senior citizens and the handicapped will make good use
of this floor.

A book lift will be installed from the first floor to the second and public
toilets will be installed on the first floor.

This floor will be a very special part of the library and an exciting

adventure for the city of Port Coquitlam, it will be a people place of welcome,

the library's vertex, a focal meeting point for all,
