The Potters’ Guild of §.C. offers the
use of an equipped studio on a
subsidized basis to a person working in
clay in Camada and who is at an aarly
stage in their career. The space in
question is one of five in a large qroup
studio, with tenure from May Ist to
April 30th of the following year. The
1992 monthly cost, including utilities
and GST, is $171.20.

salected by the Board of the Potters’
Guild from those applications received

KINGSHILL’S WOTES

I've though for some time that it would be amusing to sign other people’s names to
those pleces of pots or sculpture that I've made but didn’t particularly like.
This would serve at least two purposes. [t would maintain the quality ay customers
have come to expect, and it would cause ay competing ceramicists no end of artistic
angst, anquish and affectation.

It would be beyond tacky to merely steal other people’s shapes, qlates, techniques,
and trimming modes, amd then sign the bottom. It is not unknown for those in the
teaching trades to pilter students energies and ideas, It accumulates a certain
"respectability" for the incumbent and can be disheartening for the creative bat
"unsophisticated".

To sake something with another's signature can’t be plagiarisa if only the sian is
theirs!

We have a surprisingly open ceramics community, with an amating flow of information
acd explanation of skills. I think this exists to allow us to produce the stuff
We at greatest pleasure frog. It’s also a great help for us to have so many
functional objects people want. Wa have a foundation from which to work. If you
are going to assume other psople’s stuff, you must improve on it. This is becoming
increasingly difficult because the potting community is becoming increasingly
sophisticated.

and techniques. The student can have these to develop his or her own stuff. In
the process we both celebrate the possibilities clay offars.

In those private moments, look at how others sign their work. With some practise,
you could sign ten or twenty people's names. ['m not saying I've dome it ‘ut I
'd love to go to an auction in the year 2025 and admit that I aight have!
