NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE This last year was quite a year forthe Guild and the Board. The Made of Clay book was a landmark achievement. It continues to Bet good reviews and is steadily selling. It definitely makes the Guild more visible. We had many other events and accom- plishments during the year. We started the renovation of the Gallery; itis more than half-finished, There were two or three midnight painting events with beo-thirds of the Gallery now repainted, We had the juried exhibit Owr Best Work last February at the Community Arts Council Gallery, a Lonery for Pottery in March, the Made af Clay sale in May and From tie Kiln to ven in September. There were several sidewalk sales and three popular How da you de ther? evenings hosted at Capilano College, Langara College and the Emily Curt Institute of Ant and Design. We hail many workshops, lots of ongoing Guild business and anew newsletter editor, Our meetings are productive and enjoyable. It has been a worthy year with everyone on the Board very involved. Noone is stepping down. We are weloom- ing twonew nominees: Rachelle Chinnery and Ronna Ander. Please see their biogra- phies at the end of this report. Directors with one more year to serve are Frank Turco, Debra Stoan and Janet Turpin. Those with twomore years are Ron Feicht, Celia Rice-Jones, Ronda Green, Dona Nabata, Aaron Nelson, Gillian McMillan and Ron Vallis. Rom Vallis is continuing as president — getting better every year, Ron Feicht has taken over the Made of Clay sale and is making il inte a major event adding a new sale in the fall. Jan Turpin has devoted endless hours t keep- ing us updated on our accounting. Ronna Ander is taking over the secretary's job from Gillian McMillan, she doesn't know how fast we talk! Rachelle Chinnery brings her considerable energy and organizational skills to Our new Communications Com- mittee. Dona Nabata and Aaron Nelson are working on grants. Celia Rice-Jones has done a bit of everything including fundraising, membership, resource centre and selling the Made of Clay book. She is always ready to step in. Gillian was our recording secretary and like Celia steps in whenever needed, Ronda Green bas been our social convener and seems to hove a magic Louch with getting people together. We look forward toa new year, one alittle less overwhelming. Debra Sloan and Renda Green Nominations Committee NOMINATIONS TO THE BOARD Rachelle Chinnery Rachelle is a potter with a strong interestin furthering the development of clay culture in British Columbia, She co-founded Mudslinger Clay Studios in [996 and has organized various clay events over the last three years such as the biennial fundraiser Project Empry Bowl, She currently chairs the Communications Committee whose responsibilities include publishing the monthly Guild newsletter. In the future she 1s interested in planning innovative fundraisers for the Guild to make it even stronger. Ronna Ander Ronna developed her pottery over the past 10 years and has been influenced by sev- eral important potters including Steve Heinemann, Catherine Heirsoux, Al Tennant. Takako Suzuki, Jane Williams, Laurie Rolland, Bob Kingsmill, Patrick Horsley and Ronda Green whom she con- siders her mentor. More recently she spent eight weeks in an advanced throwing class with Sam Kwan whom she will rejoin in September at Capilano College to learn about gas and soda firing kilos. Her many influences, pottery explorations and the arts have all helped to invigorate her craft, She is very active at the Eagle Harbour Community Centre where she instructs adult and children pottery classes and is the studio technician, She strongly sup- ports the growth of the pottery community particularly for those whe commit them- selves to many years of self-guided study. In the next few years she hopes to help the Guild expand its activities and raise the profile of pottery. RESOURCE CENTRE The Resource Centre is poised and ready for great changes. We have itall measured Out and know where everything is going. The upstairs room will become mainly a lounge-reading room with the library, newsletters and periodicals. Weeven have a Sofa thanks to Celia amt Keith Rice- Jones, By the window, adesk area with file cabinets will be a perfect volunteer workspace. The kitchen remains for mak- ing tea and drinks; the stairs will be cleared and the endless boxes of pots coming and ZOing will be in the new storage area. The stairs will be more open and access to the Resource Centre will be more inviting. A fresh coat of paint will finish it off. We look forward to the Resource Centre being a familiar drop-in spot, However it is all wating for the completion of the Gallery renovation which is more than half-done, It is a day that Jane is clearly looking forward to!
